If you mount the hinged cover directly on the switch, the distance is 0mm. However, if you mount the switch behind a sheet metal panel or similar, the hinged cover must be mounted on the switch from the front. When the cover is closed, the off button should switch off safely. Thus, the sheet metal thickness (wall thickness) must be taken into account. You have the choice between 2 or 3 or 3.7mm.
